SUMMARY:*Updated: Mushroom Identification Workshop with Larry Evans
DESCRIPTION:Where: Cooper Room 4th Floor at the Missoula Public Library \n\n\n\nGet ready\, people. \n\n\n\nYou are walking in the woods and you see a really cool mushroom but you don’t want to pick it because..what if it KILLS you!?!? Maybe you got brave and took one home only to realize you had no idea what it was or what to do with it. Come up your mycoliteracy game and learn how to identify mushrooms with some of Missoula’s biggest mushroom nerds. We’ll present a bit about mushroom anatomy before breaking out into groups to identify different species we’ve brought along using portable keys and field guides. \n\n\n\nUnfortunately Larry will no longer be available to lead the upcoming identification class at the library next week as he is caring for a sick family member. \n\n\n\nWhat does this mean for Tuesday? Never fear! Sydney will be leading us\, along with support from the rest of the crew in another Amateur Mycologist Mushroom Identification class! *We promise we’ll have microphones this year. \n\n\n\nThis class will involve a short presentation along with hands on practice time with knowledgeable humans there to help! Field guides will be available to borrow or purchase. \n\n\n\nThank you for your understanding. We still plan to have an awesome time next week and hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Spring Particle Board Drop-off
DESCRIPTION:As the snow is melting are you being reminded of some by gone project as it re-emerges in your yard or behind your garage? Participate in our first ever particleboard mycoremediation drop off event April 8th at Garden City Compost from 10-4! \n\n\n\n Thank you to Mother Fungi for donating the spent substrate that has broken down so much material already! This project has been underway for quite some time and we are thrilled to take it to the next level. Fungi are a generous and magical wonder indeed. \n\n\n\n To find the drop off head to \n\n\n\n1125 Clark Fork Lane and then follow the signs. Our super cool fungal bioremediation plot is to the left BEFORE you enter the main gate. Our man MJ Sanders will be there to show you around and lighten your load. The mycelium will do the rest. \n\n\n\n Bring down any boards or bits and pieces. The only items we can’t accept is laminated pieces because we don’t have an easy way to remove it. Any questions please reach out to Michael via his social media or at michaelsanders197@yahoo.com. \n\n\n\nMush love Missoula!

They have also served on the board of directors for the Western Montana Mycological Association for the last five years\, planning events\, teaching a wide variety of mushroom classes and keeping the fungal community engaged and connected. They both have experience in herbal medicine and agriculture\, and a deep love of this land and all the plants living in their midst. They are humbled and delighted to be two of many on a long strand of plant-loving humans sharing their experience and knowledge with others.

SUMMARY:MycoRemediation Panel: How Mushrooms Digest Toxic Waste into Possibility
DESCRIPTION:Islands of plastic. Mine tailings. Nuclear waste. What happens to the most toxic human-made messes? Come learn from local mycologists and restoration ecologists about how mushrooms are helping break down the most inhospitable sludge into life-giving soil and water. Cliff Bradley\, Mark Vandermeer\, Egan Jankowski-Bradley\, and Larry Evans will be walking us through what mycoremediation is\, how it works\, projects that are underway (both in Montana and beyond)\, and what opportunities are possible in this fungal partnership. Come with questions\, stay for answers! \n\n\n\nBios: \n\n\n\nMark Vander Meer is the founder of Bad Goat Forest Products.  He is a forester and restoration ecologist. As a professional forester and soil ecologist for more than 20 years\, Mark has been practicing and mentoring long-term sustainable forest management in Montana and is well qualified to review forest plans and assess project sites. \n\n\n\nCliff Bradley is a Founder and President of Montana BioAgriculture Inc. In his 30 years career he has worked with fungi for applications in agriculture\, forestry and bioremediation. His work with fungi includes all stages from strain isolation to commercial scale production. In his previous company\, he conducted mycoremediation of petroleum\, chlorinated compounds\, and explosives. \n\n\n\nEgan Jankowski-Bradley manages Montana BioAgriculture laboratory operations. He has 10+ years working in fungal laboratories including strain isolations\, fungal production\, and field trials. He recently conducted a pilot demonstration of mycoremediation of acid mine drainage in the Pioneer Mountains of Montana. Egan has also been an active member of WMMA for decades and is passionate about mushrooms. \n\n\n\nLarry Evans has over 40 years of boogieing-around-the-woods-while-looking-at-the-ground under his belt\, and if there is one man who could teach you about mushrooms in Montana\, it’s Larry…if you can find him! Larry Evans is a prolific mushroom hunter\, teacher\, cultivator\, song writer\, and cook. He has organized heaps of mushroom forays\, festivals\, and workshops in the Rockies\, Pacific Northwest\, Bolivia\, and Jamaica. He is a founder of the Western Montana Mycological Association\, wrote a field guide to mushrooms of the Amazon\, and appeared in Ron Mann’s documentary Know Your Mushrooms. \n\n\n\nIf you can’t make it in person\, this event will be available live and recorded via the MCAT Facebook page.  \n\n\n\nYou do not need Facebook to access the broadcast. \n\n\n\nLink here: https://www.facebook.com/MissoulaCommunityTelevision?mibextid=LQQJ4d \n\n\n\nFor more information\, visit https://www.missoulapubliclibrary.org/calendar-of-events/mycoremediation-how-mushrooms-digest-toxic-waste-into-possibility/
