SUMMARY:Fall Foray 2024!
DESCRIPTION:Hey all! Yes\, the foray is on\, but we are low on scouts this year. If you want to know the location sooner\, you can help by sharing your experience: if you have found a diversity of mushrooms lately (especially those of interest) you can let us know the rough area you were in and your elevation OR you can go out and do some recon with this in mind! Otherwise you’ll just have to bear with us as we get a good location dialed in \n\n\n\nOur forays have always been crowd sourced\, and we aren’t asking folks to walk people into their favorite chanterelle patch\, but we are soliciting our community for useful information to bring you all the best experience possible. Hit us back if you have some good thoughts or leads\, or would be able to get out there and give a looksie in the next few days/week. As soon as we have a location locked down\, we’ll announce it on our Patreon. If you’re not a part of our Membership\, please join here: https://www.patreon.com/wmma/posts \n\n\n\nFor questions\, contact us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/montanamycology/ \n\n\n\nor Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/montanamushrooms/ \n\n\n\nMuch appreciated\, all! We’ll keep you posted!

Maybe you got brave and took one home only to realize you had no idea what it was or what to do with it. Come up your mycoliteracy game and learn how to identify mushrooms with some of Missoula’s biggest mushroom nerds. We’ll present a bit about mushroom anatomy before breaking out into groups to identify different species we’ve brought along using portable keys and field guides. \n\n\n\nEgan Jankowski-Bradley manages Montana BioAgriculture laboratory operations. With 10+ years working in fungal laboratories including strain isolations\, fungal production\, and field trials is one of our best local resources about fungi and what they are capable of. SUMMARY:Lolo National Forest Plan: Action and Potluck Event
DESCRIPTION:P(olitical) D(irect) A(ction) is Sexy- Potluck and Action Event \n\n\n\nWhen: March 21st 6:30-8:30pm \n\n\n\nWhere: Freecycles 732 S 1st St W\, Missoula\, MT 59801 \n\n\n\nDoes enjoying time in the woods really turn you on? Come show your forests some public love..through action!! \n\n\n\nLolo National Forest’s land management plan is currently under revision\, and the decisions that are made today will impact how our government tends to our public lands for the next 25 years. The previous forest management plan was adopted in 1986 (38 years ago!) and contains ZERO mention of fungi\, a whole kingdom that is integral to the health of our forests. What if we had forest management policies that drew upon the intelligence of fungi and symbiotically worked with them to retain water\, grow soil\, and promote biodiversity? You can help make this happen!! \n\n\n\nCome learn how you can advocate for public land management practices that work symbiotically with fungi to improve ecological outcomes in the forests that we are all so fortunate to enjoy. We’ll learn the broader strokes of how our forests have been managed\, what could be improved\, what services fungi provide and why they are inextricably entwined with the health of our forests\, and what we can do to ensure that their ecological gifts are considered in the upcoming land management plan. \n\n\n\nThough this conversation is fungally focused\, anyone who loves the forest will benefit from this conversation and learn how to shape the future of our home. Reciprocity in action is a beautiful thing. Let’s blow a big\, affectionate\, political kiss to the wilderness we all love! \n\n\n\nBring a dish to share and a friend and we’ll be the voice for those not represented at the table!

SUMMARY:Spring Particle Board Drop-off
DESCRIPTION:As the snow is melting are you being reminded of some by gone project as it re-emerges in your yard or behind your garage? Participate in our first ever particleboard mycoremediation drop off event April 8th at Garden City Compost from 10-4! \n\n\n\n Thank you to Mother Fungi for donating the spent substrate that has broken down so much material already! This project has been underway for quite some time and we are thrilled to take it to the next level. Fungi are a generous and magical wonder indeed. \n\n\n\n To find the drop off head to \n\n\n\n1125 Clark Fork Lane and then follow the signs. Our super cool fungal bioremediation plot is to the left BEFORE you enter the main gate. Our man MJ Sanders will be there to show you around and lighten your load. The mycelium will do the rest. \n\n\n\n Bring down any boards or bits and pieces. The only items we can’t accept is laminated pieces because we don’t have an easy way to remove it. Any questions please reach out to Michael via his social media or at michaelsanders197@yahoo.com. \n\n\n\nMush love Missoula!

SUMMARY:MycoRemediation Panel: How Mushrooms Digest Toxic Waste into Possibility
DESCRIPTION:Islands of plastic. Mine tailings. Nuclear waste. What happens to the most toxic human-made messes? Come learn from local mycologists and restoration ecologists about how mushrooms are helping break down the most inhospitable sludge into life-giving soil and water. Cliff Bradley\, Mark Vandermeer\, Egan Jankowski-Bradley\, and Larry Evans will be walking us through what mycoremediation is\, how it works\, projects that are underway (both in Montana and beyond)\, and what opportunities are possible in this fungal partnership. Come with questions\, stay for answers! \n\n\n\nBios: \n\n\n\nMark Vander Meer is the founder of Bad Goat Forest Products.  He is a forester and restoration ecologist. As a professional forester and soil ecologist for more than 20 years\, Mark has been practicing and mentoring long-term sustainable forest management in Montana and is well qualified to review forest plans and assess project sites. \n\n\n\nCliff Bradley is a Founder and President of Montana BioAgriculture Inc. In his 30 years career he has worked with fungi for applications in agriculture\, forestry and bioremediation. His work with fungi includes all stages from strain isolation to commercial scale production. In his previous company\, he conducted mycoremediation of petroleum\, chlorinated compounds\, and explosives. \n\n\n\nEgan Jankowski-Bradley manages Montana BioAgriculture laboratory operations. He has 10+ years working in fungal laboratories including strain isolations\, fungal production\, and field trials. He recently conducted a pilot demonstration of mycoremediation of acid mine drainage in the Pioneer Mountains of Montana. Egan has also been an active member of WMMA for decades and is passionate about mushrooms. \n\n\n\nLarry Evans has over 40 years of boogieing-around-the-woods-while-looking-at-the-ground under his belt\, and if there is one man who could teach you about mushrooms in Montana\, it’s Larry…if you can find him! Larry Evans is a prolific mushroom hunter\, teacher\, cultivator\, song writer\, and cook. He has organized heaps of mushroom forays\, festivals\, and workshops in the Rockies\, Pacific Northwest\, Bolivia\, and Jamaica. He is a founder of the Western Montana Mycological Association\, wrote a field guide to mushrooms of the Amazon\, and appeared in Ron Mann’s documentary Know Your Mushrooms. \n\n\n\nIf you can’t make it in person\, this event will be available live and recorded via the MCAT Facebook page.  \n\n\n\nYou do not need Facebook to access the broadcast. \n\n\n\nLink here: https://www.facebook.com/MissoulaCommunityTelevision?mibextid=LQQJ4d \n\n\n\nFor more information\, visit https://www.missoulapubliclibrary.org/calendar-of-events/mycoremediation-how-mushrooms-digest-toxic-waste-into-possibility/
